Blue Gestures - Variations on Broken Lines
An experimental sonic assembly emerges through the collaborative creation of resonant exilic vessels. Each participant contributes to this ephemeral soundscape by engaging with glass jars that become instruments of both acoustic and chromatic expression. The relationship between material and sound follows an asynchronous freedom: increasing amounts of paint produce deeper, more resonant frequencies, while greater saturation of pigment manifests as richer, more profound blue tonalities. Together, this creates a living assembly of sonic materiality.
We are intimately aware of our bodies as three-dimensional containers into which we put certain things and out of which other things emerge.
hierophant
A sonic assembly of an excillic jar of sound. Each glass jar becomes a sonic vessel—resonant with the gestures of those who shaped them. The pitch produced by the jar lowers as paint is added, with the frequency correlating directly to the pitch. When multiple jars are used, each one resonates differently, forming a tactile scale. I created a score for making a jar sound. The tones emerge from the amount of paint each participant adds, while the colors—drawn from a personal spectrum of blue—are chosen in the moment of offering. Each jar becomes a vessel of resonance shaped by chromatic feeling. The more paint, the lower the pitch; the more pigment, the deeper the hue—creating a participatory assembly of sonic materiality.
